Even though you may hate the sight of wrinkles, know that they are regular parts of our lives. In fact, you may even want to consider wrinkles blessings. After all, the older you get, the longer you’ve lived. And who doesn’t want to live a long a fruitful life?
Of course, wrinkles do represent signs of aging. You see, as we age, our skin loses its elasticity. So what appears around your eyes and mouths are lines that are formed when the skin no longer tends to smooth back into place following squints or smiles. Thankfully, there are some things you can do to minimize wrinkles and even ward them off for a while. And the best part about these methods is that they’re all natural and fairly easy to do
Get enough shut-eye each night.
Getting a good night’s sleep is actually a lot easier said than done, isn’t it? We’d all prefer to get ample sleep, but our busy lives often have us getting less than the recommended 7-8 hours of shut eye every night. Not only do you need adequate rest to function properly each day, proper sleep helps you to ward off the signs of aging.
Annemarie Skincare explains that in 2015, a study of 60 women found that “good sleepers” have better skin than “poor sleepers”. Using a variety of photos, sun exposure tests and laboratory tests, the researchers created a scoring system to measure wrinkles, fine lines, reduced elasticity, uneven pigmentation and sagging. “Women with a higher score had an older appearance,” explains the site, “Results showed that good sleepers had an average score of 2.2, while poor sleepers had an average score of 4.4.”
It’s an understatement to say that cigarettes are bad for you. Cigarette smoking is a widely-known cancer-causing, life-threatening habit. Simply put, smoking kills. Quitting the nasty habit will have a multitude of health benefits - and better skin is just one of them.
“Collagen and elastin damage is a big factor in premature aging of skin but vascular constriction caused by smoking plays a role as well,” explains Terry Martin on VeryWellMind.com, “Constricted blood vessels inhibit blood flow and oxygen from reaching skin cells, promoting skin aging as well.”
Stay hydrated and eat lots of antioxidants.
Good nutrition is key. This “good for your overall health” suggestion is a known promoter of healthy skin. By drinking a lot of water every day, you’ll help to moisturize your skin from within while also helping your body to eliminate toxins. Eating foods high in antioxidants is another excellent way to live as wrinkle-free as you can be.
Which foods are antioxidant-rich? A shortlist includes blueberries, cranberries, spinach, kale, walnuts, artichokes, prunes, kiwis, red beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, apricots, carrots, mangos – you get the picture!
