What better way to rejuvenate your skin than to harness your own blood to revive your natural beauty? Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a natural way of rejuvenating tired looking skin. It is the latest medical treatment to cross over into the world of aesthetics.
PRP has been a recognized treatment in sports medicine and orthopedics and used by Dr Johan Myburgh in his musculoskeletal practice for the past 5 years.
Aurora Laser and Vein Centre is proud to offer this new and exciting service treating patients with their own unique growth factors. These growth factors are used to rejuvenate your skin, by healing damaged or aging skin. Dr. Myburgh uses the Regen ACR PRP system which is safe, effective, versatile, non- allergenic, and offers virtually no downtime or side effects. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is plasma from your own blood which contains concentrated platelets.Dr Myburgh uses the U225 gun to perform platelet rich plasma injections.
The U225 is the most sophisticated MESO-INJECTOR on the international market, delivering quick and painless PRP precisely into the area being treated resulting in restoration of skin moisture and glow, along with improvement in skin texture and tone.
PLATELET RICH PLASMA
Platelets are a specialized type of blood cells which are reservoirs of natural growth factors. Platelets rupture and release their growth factors when they find themselves out of their normal environment (which is in your blood vessels).
Typically, this occurs when an injury occurs to the body and blood vessels are ruptured. This could be due to an accidental cut or scrape or a bruise. The released growth factors then get to work building new blood vessels and new tissue. In normal circumstances, growth factors are important in healing and skin regeneration.
- stimulate collagen secretion, cell growth and tissue remodeling.
- stimulate development of new blood vessels to improve skin nourishment.
- attract stem cells to assist in this role of new tissue regeneration. By injecting platelets in a PRP, we harness this new tissue regeneration ability of the growth factors.
PRP assists in recovery from the ageing process and importantly, enhances the results of other rejuvenation treatments.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS
This treatment can improve skin texture and tone, refine wrinkles, and reduce scars such as acne or stretch marks while preserving the natural appearance. It can also be used to promote hair growth when injected into the scalp. Visible results may take between 1-12 weeks and vary between individuals, depending on different factors such as general health, age, diet, smoking and skin types.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS?
Initially, your physician will examine your skin and other factors and recommend a treatment regimen. In many cases, Regenlab PRP treatment is performed in a series of three sessions, 3-8 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are recommended every 6-12 months for optimal long lasting results.
HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER?
The sensations vary between each person and treatment. Since PRP is autologous (ie. it comes from your own blood), adverse reactions are rare. You may experience slight redness, swelling, mild bruising and pain. Those reactions usually pass in a day or two.
SUITABLE FOR PRP THERAPY?
PRP is a suitable treatment for anyone who wants to improve the appearance of the skin. It can improve tone and texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and can also be used to restore lost volume. Post treatment patients often notice a subtle improvement in their skin quality and notice that it looks fresher and more vibrant than before.
Contraindications include pregnancy, breast feeding, autoimmune or blood pathologies and cancer. Furthermore, consistent use of NSAID drugs within 48 hours of the PRP application should be avoided. For more information, please consult Aurora Laser and Vein Centre.
COMBINED OTHER TREATMENTS
Clinical evidence has shown that combining PRP with other rejuvenation techniques, such as fillers, mesotherapy and laser treatments induces a synergistic beneficial effect.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRP & DERMAL
Dermal filler is a synthetic material designed to give volume and fill up lines in a specific area. PRP is self-sourced and actively helps your skin to repair itself by improving skin complexion and restoring its natural glow.
